Summit Pointe is the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District’s 17th elementary school.

Summit Pointe Elementary School, funded through a 2006 no-tax-increase bond issue, provided relief for overcrowding at the elementary level.  The school’s opening involved a number of community and staff members, beginning in fall 2006 with the R-7 Elementary Boundary Study Team.  This broad-based group worked during the 2006-07 school year to develop a recommendation for elementary boundary changes that both facilitated the Summit Pointe’s opening and alleviated overcrowding at other schools.

In addition, Summit Pointe Elementary School’s name was recommended by a team of parents and district employees.  School staff members and students worked together to develop a recommendation for the school colors of green, black and silver, and students in the school’s attendance area had the opportunity to vote on the school’s mascot –the panther.

Total cost for the 72,330 square-foot elementary school’s construction was approximately $11.4 million and the total project cast was approximately $13.5 million.  Construction took just over one year with groundbreaking held in June 2006.  The project was also completed on time and within budget.

In 2008, Summit Pointe received an addition to the building. An art room was constructed to allow room for full-day Kindergarten. Full-day Kindergarten was implemented in Fall 2009. Throughout the first five years, the community worked toward building an outdoor classroom which was completed in 2012. The classroom is a space where students have the opportunity to interact with our environment and learn in the great outdoors. Also, in 2012, a rock wall was built in the gym courtesy of our student council and awesome PTA!

Today Summit Pointe is a learning community where staff and students collaboratively work together. We believe in supporting students through Positive Behavior Supports and extending leadership capacity through our Student Council, Pride Ambassador program, Recyclers, Choir, and Art Club.
